Escaping the Winter Blues

Get More Sunlight

Between shorter daylight hours and and dropping temperatures, we tend to get unbelievably sun deprive during the winter, affecting both our mood and health. I’ve found that it  a difference to get outside and catch what little. My little secret to making that happen is finding a local conservatory. I especially love going to the one on Belle Isle during the winter months, as I can strip off my layers and bathe in the sunlight streaming though the glass.

Get The Glow

It’s easy to feel a bit lackluster when the last of summer’s glow fades away, so for me it’s pretty essential to find a good highlighter that helps to reflect what precious winter light we have. I recently discovered Lancôme’s Dual Finish Highlighter in Rose Gold, and I feel like it gives me a subtle but radiant winter glow. It’s also super versatile – at night I apply it with a damp sponge for a more dramatic highlight, and it looks just as great!

Watch Your Diet

While it’s super tempting to binge on hot cocoas and comfort food all winter long, we can’t forget to take care of ourselves either. Vitamin D, B Complex, and Fish Oil are especially useful at combating the toll winter takes on our bodies. While I try to be really cognisant of eating a nutrient-dense diet, I do supplement with vitamins for the days I miss the mark a bit.

Trick Your Senses

If you can’t go to the beach, make the beach come to you with a sunny scent. Berdoues sent me a bottle of Vânira Moorea from their new Grands Crus collection, each of which is inspired by a different far flung destination. It was love at first whiff – with Madagascar vanilla and Brazilian orange transporting me to a lush Polynesian retreat (in my mind, anyways!).

Pamper Your Skin

Nothing gets me down in the winter more than battling dull, dry skin. This year I’ve switched up my skincare regime in an effort to banish the effects of freezing winds. I’ve been experimenting with a lot of different products, but so far Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair has been the holy grail for me – I honestly noticed a difference the first morning after using it!

Plan a Trip

If nothing else seems to be doing the trick, its always fun to start planning your next getaway! Studies have actually proven that the happiest part of your trip is in the planning of it – so go on Pinning and browsing travel blogs to your hearts content!
